I just wish the sales departments at our media companies were engaged int he same conversation as the content producers.

I feel like sales departments in old media companies are simply waiting for the content people to "finish" so they can go back out and do the same thing they have always done.

Anyway - content people. Keep up the good work.

Monetizing how we capture, tag and disseminate content in the future is critical to moving toward a new business model that media companies are currently grasping at but don't seem to have the answers for right now.
Turning love into money seems just as plausible as any other idea I've read such as pay-per-click for banner ads, paying for electronic versions of the newspaper or paying for specific stories on certain topics.
If loyal Gazette readers love our writers, photographers, bloggers enought maybe they'll follow the content they produce wherever it goes and pay to access it in whatever form it's in. The trick would seem to stay relevant and consistent with our core values in all form of messages.

Now could be a great time to measure the "love" C.R. Gazette readers have for the newspaper. Do a survey to find out how many of them think the Gazette is:

A. going out of business.
B. dropping the print edition.
C. making employees reapply for jobs.

Also ask how they feel about their perceptions and where they got their impressions. Some readers seem very concerned. It would be interesting to know how widespread that is.
