The future of journalism will shine in Philadelphia
It is hard to believe it’s already here but BarCamp NewsInnovation Philadelphia is this Saturday and I am already in the Keystone state to not only root on the Pittsburgh Penguins in the NHL playoffs but to take part in an event to help shape the future of journalism.
Sean Blanda and a host of others have done a fantastic job of organizing the event, which will be on the Temple University campus.

BarCamp NewsInnovation Philadelphia is the national conference in a country-wide effort to reinvent the news industry.
Using the BarCamp open grid format (what’s that?), some of the greatest minds around will discuss new ideas on how to reenergize and innovate the news industry. This is NOT a journalists-only event! Invite any friends from various industries who are concerned about the future of news. Even your friend that complains about the biased media. Especially that guy. There will be representatives from news organizations all over the country.
As of this moment 154 people have regisered to participate. I am about as much of a fan of the journalism industry as I am for the Penguins so all is good in my world, although the latter probably won’t sit well with the folks in Philly.
With that being said, let’s get serious for a minute. This unconference in Philadelphia will be a gathering of some of the smartest up-and-coming minds in media and technology. Our time is now. I am excited to hear and share in the formation of some cool ideas. But, again, it is more than just about ideas. It is about making real chaning within our company’s and within our communities that is going to make a difference.
I don’t mean to get all high-minded on you, but conversations about the methods of how you get your news and information are happening across the country right now. And, it turns out, one of the more accessible and meaningful of those conversations is going to happen in Philadelphia on Saturday. You can attend FOR FREE. – Christopher Wink
I will be heading to Philadelphia from Western PA early Friday. I look forward to meeting a bunch of new people. If you can’t be there follow along at #BCNIPhilly.
