I don't think we are operating under that mode. It's still a new concept of how we are trying to do things. And we need to walk before we can run or even sprint...

We are learning a lot of new things. For journalists to file stories the way we are looking at doing now is pretty new.

With that said: I'm very interested in tapping into the content plan item with your help and helping reach the proper audiences. Thanks!

I agree to some extent. We're still in the mode of 'if you build it, they will come' mentality instead of actually finding a 'job to be done' within a targeted audience. I'd be more than happy to help with that from an audience perspective.

Take the parenting topic we're trying to tap into. A group of about 11 organizations approached us and said they were having trouble getting quality information to educated, young professional parents - those people who typically think they will be good parents automatically because of their background, education level and so on. The organizations have tons of resources and good, helpful information but they need to overcome a perception to reach that particular audience. In that case, we were able to identify the job to be done and could build a content plan and go after contributors accordingly.

But that is a hard process and one that not many want to go through but in the end will help us serves targeted audiences much better.

I'd be interested in collaborating.

I like this: "collecting content for audiences."

I think that's, in part, what we are trying to do with our new topical beat blogs. The contributors at http://www.EasternIowaSchools.com write for that audience, and other people collect news for their blogs for those specific audiences.

Lots of food for thought here. Let me know if/when we can continue this discussion.
